Neighbors Café Profile

Cameron and Shelly Wiggins opened their little café in November of 1997.  Their lives were forever changed.  Neighbors Café is operated like one of those forgotten little diners of yesteryear.  "Neighbors" is not a chain restaurant, and it is not a fast food restaurant.  Neighbors Café concentrates on providing you, the customer, the highest quality and value for their money.  We want each and everyone of our customers to have an enjoyable and memorable dining experience.
Steph, Deb, and Alex strike up a pose Neighbors Café is a warm, neighborly place to eat.  We offer quite an extensive menu for a small diner.  You can choose from a wide variety of breakfast items which include, but is not limited to, cinnamon rolls, omelets, pancakes, French toast, and biscuits and gravy.  Lunch includes grilled hamburgers, hand breaded chicken fried steaks, hot roast beef dinners, home-made enchiladas, crispitos, sandwiches, soup, and salads, just to name a few.  We also have a wonderful baker.  Be sure to ask about our pies and cakes!  Neighbors Café serves a daily lunch special Tuesday through Friday.  These daily specials vary, with the exception of Tuesday, which is always the chicken fried steak special.  We serve breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Saturday.  Hours are 6:00AM to 2:00PM.
Shelly tends the store.  She manages the day to day operations of "Neighbors."  Shelly participates in cooking, baking, waiting tables, grill cooking, and pretty much anything else that is required.  Her hours are endless, but it all seems to be worth it.
Cameron has not been around the cafe near as much.  His health has been limiting his appearances.  But his heart is still there.  Cameron has been forced to quit work due to his health.
Debb is our grill cook, and has been with us since we opened.  She also tends to business in the kitchen whenever she gets the opportunity.  She is one of the best grill cooks around.  Debb never gets flustered, no matter how busy she is ... and she is busy.  Many customers like to sit at the counter behind Debb and watch the show.  She is rock solid!
Steph caught on film much to her dismay Little Freddie is back as our prep cook.  He has returned to work at Neighbors for the summer.  His duties are endless, and include, but by no means limited to preparing the daily specials by slicing vegetables, breading the chicken fried steaks, cooking the breakfast meats, mixing pancake mix and omelet mix, preparing the potatoes for hash browns.  We are very pleased to have Fred back as our prep cook.  He has been doing an excellent job back there for us!
Floyd helps Fred a few hours a day several days a week.  Floyd has experience in the food industry.    Floyd and his wife operated the Dairy Queen quite a few years ago.  He does a great job back there giving Fred a hand, and giving us all an occasional laugh.
As many of you already know, our baker Sherry Peelen and her family moved away to Ottawa, Kansas where her husband took a job.  Of course, this means that we also have lost Sherry's son Logan, who helped out in the kitchen with dishes and the like.  We wish them luck, but we will sorely miss Sherry and Logan.  Moreover, Michelle Unruh, also known as "The Cake Lady" has drummed up too much business for herself to be able to continue as our baker.  (I bet she hates that!)  Thus, we are quite please to have Stephanie step up as our new baker.  We are blessed to have Steph stay on board after beginning her family.  Steph was not able to work full time anymore due to the arrival of a little one; so she will work part-time baking up the same wide range of pies and cakes.  Her pies include chocolate meringue or cream, coconut meringue or cream, lemon meringue, strawberry pie, apple pie, butterscotch pie, and sour cream raison pie.  Some of her cakes include German chocolate cake, carrot cake, and cherry cheese cake, Reese's peanut butter cup cheese cake, Death by Chocolate Cake, turtle cheese cake, cream puffs,  just to name a few.  Oh yes, and don't forget the cinnamon rolls, or hub caps, as we affectionately call them.  Please contact us if you need pies or cakes for that special occasion.  We just ask for a couple of days notice.
You probably have noticed that Curt has moved on.  Kara is our dish washer.  It appears that she will fit in nicely into the mix down at "Neighbs."  This is Kara's first full-time job and she loves it there!

On Saturdays and other days off you will find Austin, Marissa and Drake helping out with the dishes and chores elsewhere.  We finally reached the time where Jewel and Janelle are no longer with us.  They are now attending Wichita State University, Cam's alma mater.  They have been with us for years!  We really will be at a loss without them.  Marissa and Laura will step right up in helping up front mainly on Saturdays.  They bus tables, roll "silvy", tend the drink and ice area, wash dishes, and pick up the slack elsewhere as needed.  These kids make it easier for us to satisfy you, the customer.
Margaret will be tending the register part-time during the week.  This will take a load off to be sure!  This leaves our wait staff Brandy and Nette.  Nette has come to help us from The Peppy Partridge and The Pear Tree in the past.  She is now firmly in the trenches here at Neighbors.  Brandy has just joined us and is a shoe-in for a "Neighbs" waitress.  She will work out nicely, and is adapting quite well to the hectic pace.  We really hope to keep Brandy for a long time!  Brandy and Nette are extremely hard workers and are very conscious of their customer's needs.  Ericka has returned to wait tables on Saturday.  She always was a crowd favorite.  Occasionally you may see George and Sheryl waiting tables when someone is out.  Please let them know if there is anything that they can do to make this experience more enjoyable.  After all, the customer is what it is all about at "Neighbors."
We could go on and on here.  Don't just take our word for it.  Please come see for yourselves if you are in the McPherson area.  We are downtown at 204 South Main, McPherson, Kansas.
